One Case of Intrathoracic Goiter Assoeiated with Superior Vena Cava Syndrome

Abstract
Intrathoracic goiter is one of the few nonmalignant causes of the superior vena cava
syndrome and account for only a small percent of all mediastinal tumors.
A 58-year-old woman with clinical features of superior vents cava syndrome had
mediastinal mass on chest radiograph. Percutaneous transthoracic lung biopsy, I-131
thyroid scan and chest CT were performed, and follicular adenoma of thyroid was
confirmed preoperatively. After removal of the tumor mass by surgical operation,
superior vena cava syndrome was completely relieved.
The authors report one case of intrathoracic goiter associated with superior vena cava
syndrome with the review of literature.
